The Obedience of Matthew

I desire mercy not sacrifice. I did not come to call the righteous but the sinners. – Matthew 9:13

Today’s gospel highlights the calling of Matthew as one of Jesus’s disciples. Being a tax collector, people hated him and he was labeled sinner. Despite all these, Jesus chose and called him in his ministry. The call is surprising, but equally surprising is the readiness of Matthew to respond to the call. When Jesus called him, he knew that he was forgiven so he accepted it with profound gratefulness by saying YES to him.

“When we are called and chosen, we are consistently forgiven.”

Jesus decision to choose Matthew tells us that the Lord does not focus on our imperfections but on how He can fulfill his mission in us. By allowing ourselves to be used by God through our service, we are consequently opening our lives to be transformed. The decision to follow him signifies our acceptance of his forgiveness, therefore we do not have to focus on our past sins and guilt rather on his love and mercy.

Does your past sins or current struggles hinders you from giving your all to the Lord?

Don’t think one is ever too wicked to be his disciple. As they say, your past does not define your future. Remember how a despised tax collector was transformed by God’s mercy and believe that you are meant for better things. Like Matthew, all you have to do is say YES to his invitation.

While it is true that we must separate ourselves with sins and evil ways, we must not isolate.  Allow your painful past to become wounds that heal. Allow the Lord to bless others through you, the lessons that you learn from the past are meant to be shared so you can help others. To become light to the world, we have to shine in darkness.

Don’t let your imperfections rob the bright future ahead of you.

God is up for something better. Listen to him and obey when He say, “FOLLOW ME!”

Servant Leader

As Christians, we have a perfect example of a Servant Leader in Jesus Christ. There’s a story in the bible when two of his disciples requested place of honor at Jesus “left and right”. They believed that leadership meant position of great honor and power, He in turn, cleared out that greatness is not about superiority or lording it over, rather it is serving others.

Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” – Mark 10:43-45

Servant leadership is more than just an attitude, it is a unique form of discipleship. A state of total surrender and of denying oneself, “member’s welfare first before mine”. It is a choice we make when we are firm with the decision to follow the life of Christ, to live a life the way he lived and love the way he loved. So regardless of the position, we have this mindset to live a life of service whether in leadership role or not.

As they say, leaders are made not born because leadership skills can be taught. On the other hand, servant-leadership is a choice, it cannot be forced to someone. It must be embraced out of personal decision and commitment.

Working for the Lord

“The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few, so ask the Master of harvest to send out laborers for His harvest. – Mt 9:37-38”

To labor for the Lord is to live a life of service and self-sacrifice. It requires hard work and commitment. There are times that you will be opposed, questioned or even persecuted. Times like this, we must fix our eyes on the Master of harvest and take on the example of Jesus Christ. Despite accusations and indifference, he continues to fulfill the mission given to Him.

Therefore, do not be discouraged or disheartened when some people doesn’t believe, recognize or support our work. The work that we are doing is His, though we may not earn the recognition, approval and support of people around us, we will forever earn the favor of God.

WORSHIP LIKE NO OTHER

Huli man daw at magaling, huli pa din.

Isa na siyang Full Time Worker ngayon.

  1. Every worship should start with Exhortation.
  2. You need to worship to lead others into worship.

“When you raise your hands to worship, you need to raise the Holy Ones not the Showy ones”

      3. Don’t be conscious, speak and sings with your heart.

      4. When praying and worshiping avoid praying your usual prayers.

      5. Worship is difficult when you done unrighteous things.

      6. Be Real and Be Honest.

      7. Be knowledgeable, know the songs by heart.

      8. Avoid to be destructed.

  1. EXORTATION
  2. SIGN OF THE CROSS
  3. SPONTANEOUS PRAISING
  4. 2 FAST SONGS
  • Preparing our hearts  and making that deeper connection and relationship  with GOD

      5. SPONTANEOUS PRAISING
6. SLOW SONG

  • Allowing ourselves to reflect more, opening our hearts and listening to GOD’s words

      7. PRAYING POINT/CLOSING PRAYER

  • Always end the prayer with a High Note.

       8. SIGN OF THE CROSS

“WORSHIP AS IF IT IS YOUR FIRST, WORSHIP AS IF IT IS YOUR LAST AND WORSHIP AS IF IT IS YOUR ONLY CHANCE. – Bro. Jake Lime ”

Ano pang hinihintay mo. KANTA NA AT PURIHIN NATIN SIYA…. LET’S WORSHIP LIKE NO OTHER.

Through Education Anything Can Happen

This is a late post, but I hope this will inspire us to serve in Cornerstone.

Cornerstone – a CFC program in partnership with the Ateneo Center for Educational Development held its first TEACH Expo last May 12, 2012 at Singson Hall, Ateneo de Manila University. This whole day affair gathered more than 250 volunteers from CFC Singles for Christ, and 41 passionate partners from the CFC Handmaids of the Lord and Couples for Christ (CFC) – all of which were brought together by the same fire to share God’s love to young learners.  JQ Quimpang led  our Cornerstone volunteers to an opening worship by alluding to our Lord Jesus Christ, as the greatest teacher of all – one who patiently makes known to us ‘the way, the truth and the life’.

The expo’s battle cry, Through Education Anything Can Happen was laid out by Cornerstone’s Project Director, Bernie Cuevas.  This year’s thrust was to cater to 100 schools for the upcoming school year 2012 – 2013. Mel Oracion, Executive Director of Ateneo Center for Educational Development (ACED), in her opening remarks defined poverty as a monster with many hearts – killing just one at a time will not be enough. Cornerstone, in its commitment to mentor the young, provides us with a concrete and sustainable way of getting rid of the monster.  By raising the quality of education that students in public schools have, we can assure good future for this younger generation of Filipinos.

The whole event was dedicated to sharpen the skills of Cornerstone volunteers, and equip those who don’t have prior teaching backgrounds. The first session entitled, Building Awareness of Learning Disabilities was given by Jenny Tapales, co-founder and a member of the board of directors of Ed Link Foundation and Link Ed Incorporated. Tapales’ session roused awareness and deeper understanding of the students’ feelings by tapping into classroom situations they usually go through. Workshops soon followed to boost the creativity and passion of all the volunteers. The workshops include Learning Fundamentals, Classroom Management and Discipline, Creative Teaching, Preparation of Instructional Materials, Child Psychology, and Parent Formation Program.

This event was made successful through the combined effort and generosity of Cornerstone full time workers and our partner ADMU, whose fruitful collaboration provided new platforms for learning to all the volunteers. As the expo came to a close with worship by Nic Escalona, the volunteers came home with their minds full of new discoveries, and their hearts ignited to serve and begin anew.

Leadership is Obedience (from LoveCloud)

When I joined Youth for Christ (YFC) in 2003, I was introduced to a different face of leadership, authority and power. Being called to a higher service or position doesn’t necessarily equate to an authority and power above those inferiors, neither my leaders acts superior to me as well. It is where I learned how to be a Servant Leader – members’ welfare first before mine. In the gospel, Jesus was confronted by the elders, the chief priests and scribes regarding his authority. Sometimes, we are like this people, we tend to judge or question the authorities of the people who lead us; we check their background and even compare them to other leaders. On the other hand, we also experienced being judged and confronted whenever we are called to lead. On these instances, we can only trust the greater power of God and the Holy Spirit; we are to be merciful to those who doubt.

SFC Christian Life Program (Loreto Church)

SFC WestB1A started a Christian Life Program last Thursday, May 31, 2012 at Knight of Columbus Hall, Our Lady of Loreto Church in Legarda. The CLP’s creative theme is from the movie “UP” which conveys the message “there’s no way but up”.

Bro. Binoy Ricafort, WestB1’s Cluster Head enthusiastically delivered the CLP Orientation Talk. He joyfully shared his journey, blessings and God’s encounter in this community thus, set everyone’s expectation on what CLP and SFC is about.

God blessed the chapter with 30 participants who expressed their excitement and willingness to continue attending the program. With hope and much anticipation, the whole CLP Service Team headed by Bro. Jay, Bro. Fjordz, Sis. Majane and Sis. Edna are now preparing for another exciting and equally nourishing CLP Talk 1.

Everyone is invited! Come join us in serving and loving the Lord.
